Directions
The First Church, UU is a granite "castle-looking" building located at 316 Essex Street at the edge of downtown Salem in the McIntyre District.
First Church is just off of route 114 near the intersection of Essex Street and North Street. We are two doors down from the Witch House, not to be confused with the Witch Museum on Salem Common, (which is actually and ironically a former building of ours!)
From 95/128: Follow signs for 114 East all the way into Salem. Turn right onto Essex Street at the intersection where North Street turns to Summer Street. Just after you turn you will see First Church on your right behind a black wrought iron fence.
Parking
Parking is NOT available onsite* during October for Tours and Special Events.
*There are a limited number of spots available for church members only on Sunday mornings for church services. Those parked on the First Church campus without permission will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The First Church is conveniently located just three blocks from the Salem Commuter Rail station.
The First Church is ideally set up for transportation options in the 19th and 21st centuries! Our parking onsite is limited. There are a limited number of parking spots behind the church where we have a small parking lot. (The driveway is accessed off of North Street). Some street parking is available on Essex Street. In addition, the municipal lots near the Salem YMCA (further down Essex Street towards the center of town) is free before noon on Sundays.
For those looking to access our building via wheelchair or walker, please use our Office entrance where you will find our new lobby and elevator both of which are at grade and fully ADA compliant. Almost every part of our building is readily accessible.
