Silent Reading Party

  • First Church in Salem 316 Essex Street Salem, MA, 01970 United States (map)

Note: Our December gathering will be a special Holiday event!

Our Cleveland Room will be beautifully decorated, and instead of our usual snacks, we will have a hot cocoa bar! If you can, you're invited to bring in some cookies to share.

You're also invited to spread some holiday cheer by bringing in a book for our Children's LGBTQ+ Little Free Library, which is located in front of our church. You can check out our wishlist on bookshop.org, but you are welcome to buy books anywhere (or choose a book you know and love that is appropriate for children and features positive LGBTQ+ representation!).

Silent Reading Parties started at a bar in Seattle, but quickly became popular across the country. The premise is simple: choose any book that you would like to read, sit and enjoy it in a group with quiet music, and then have some time to share with your neighbors about what you read.

Bring a book and join us for some reading time in our beautiful Fellowship space, also known as “Salem’s Living Room”. There will be snacks, time to talk about our books, and plenty of time to read. If the weather’s chilly, we will have a crackling fire in our fireplace. Bring whatever you are reading (all books and formats welcome!), along with a blanket, cushion, or anything else that would make you feel comfortable.

This is a monthly event that happens on the second Thursday of every month, until we take a break for the summer.
