At First Church, we are deeply committed to the spiritual growth and well-being of the youngest members of our community. We strive to create an environment that is not only a space for children to learn about their UU identity, but a space where they can feel confident, excited, and supported.

What do the Children and Youth at First Church do?

Our programming for children and youth has Sunday School at its core. Each Sunday, we gather during Worship to express and explore our UU faith, and build community together. But Sunday mornings are far from the end of this exploration. Throughout the year we have special celebrations, field trips, Family Fun Nights, a Christmas pageant, and much more!

This year, our Sunday School program will focus on UU Identity. What makes us Unitarian Universalists? What is our shared history, and how does it influence us today? If UUs can all believe many different things, what holds us together? Each group will explore these questions in different ways.

If you have any questions about our program, please feel free to reach out to the Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Theo Burbank. You can send her an email at fcreligioused@gmail.com, and she will beset up a meeting by Zoom or in person.

If you have a child who plans to participate in RE this year, please take a moment to fill out our RE Registration Form.

Our Whole Lives (OWL)

This year, First Church will be offering Our Whole Lives (OWL) to 7th and 8th graders in conjunction with the UU Church of Greater Lynn. OWL is a comprehensive sexual education program that offers honest, accurate information that reflects the wide spectrum of genders, bodies, and sexualities. This program dismantles stereotypes, builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making, and has the potential to save lives.

We are excited to partner with UUCGL to offer this program again this year, and we are especially excited that this program will be open to community members, with participation costs on a sliding scale (the program is free for church members).

The program will run on Sunday evenings at UUCGL from the Fall through the Spring, and parent and youth orientation is October 1. This orientation is especially important, as it will give parents a chance to learn the exact details of the program separate from their children. If you are interested in signing up, please contact Theo Burbank at fcreligioused@gmail.com.

Meter and Verse: A Celebration of National Poetry Month

Friday, April 19, 6-8pm

April is National Poetry Month, and the best way to celebrate is by sharing poetry together.

We will do this in 3 ways:

READ: Bring a favorite poem to share with the group

WRITE: Try your hand at writing a poem using one of the forms provided (or your own!)

EXPLORE: Browse poems to find something new

This is an intergenerational activity and is open to people of all ages. We ask that any children are accompanied by an adult.
