Archives

The Archives Committee protects, processes, and promotes our remarkable collection of material from five Salem churches (First, North, East, Barton Square, Second) and from five centuries.  We protect by overseeing the preservation of our Archival material for future generations.  We process by adding current material to the Archive and keeping our Finding Aid up-to-date, responding to research inquiries, and initiating our own research projects to reveal untold stories from our collection.  We promote by creating displays and exhibits, contributing content to the church website and publications, and seeking opportunities to connect our material with external audiences. Some of our members are First Church tour guides.   As we are all volunteers with varying degrees of experience in Archives Management or related fields, we work in conjunction with a professional archivist and advisers.   If you respond favorably to what you’ve read here, if you’d like to learn some new skills or share your experience, please join us! Our history is pretty amazing! —Archives Committee 2018
